Keep your favorite Garmin activities on one map
Garmin Connect shows one activity at a time. Bring in the ones worth remembering, a long hike, a trip abroad, a race, and HoldMyTrack keeps them together on one map with everything else you have brought in. You don't need your whole history: pick the activities that matter to you.
Export an activity from Garmin Connect
-
Open the activity
On the Garmin Connect website, open Activities, then the activity you want to keep. Exporting is on the website, not in the phone app.
-
Export it
Click the gear icon at the top right and choose Export to GPX or Export to TCX. Export Original gives the watch's own FIT file inside a .zip: unzip it and keep the .fit file.
-
Upload it to HoldMyTrack
Drop the file onto the map, or choose it from the Upload menu: up to 20 files at a time, each up to 16 MB.
Straight from the watch
Connected to a computer by its cable, many Garmin watches and bike computers show a GARMIN folder whose Activity folder holds a FIT file for each recent activity, named by its date and time. Pick the days you want and upload those files.
For your whole explored area
Fog of War clears wherever you have been, so more ground means more cleared map. Garmin's account export has every activity: in your Garmin account, open Data Management, choose Export Your Data and request it. Garmin emails a link, which can take from two days to a month. The activity files are in more .zip archives inside it, under DI_CONNECT/DI-Connect-Uploaded-Files: unzip them and pick what to bring in, 20 files at a time.
Good to know
- The same activity from two places, say Garmin and Strava, becomes two activities: keep one and delete the other. Also on Strava? See exporting your Strava activities.
- Mark home as a Private location and wherever a track starts or ends there, that part is hidden. See Settings and privacy.
- No health data. Heart rate and other body signals in a Garmin file aren't read.
Any other app that exports GPX, FIT or TCX works the same way: see opening a track file.
